Course Title: Escape, Barricade, Counter

Course Description: This course is specifically designed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge for responding effectively to an active shooter situation. Participants will learn three critical strategies: Escape, Barricade, and Counter (Fight). The course will focus on developing situational awareness, survival mindset, and practical skills to maximize personal safety and the safety of others in high-stress situations.

Teaching Methodology: The course will employ a variety of teaching methods, including interactive scenarios, role-playing exercises, hands-on training, and expert-led discussions. Practical drills will simulate real-world situations to ensure participants can apply the knowledge and skills learned.

Assessment: Participants will be assessed through practical evaluations, scenario-based assessments, and written examinations to gauge their understanding and readiness to respond to an active shooter situation.

Certification: Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certification attesting to their ability to effectively employ the Escape, Barricade, and Counter (Fight) strategies in an active shooter scenario.

Course Content:

  1. Escape Strategy:

    • Recognizing the signs of an active shooter.

    • Evacuation planning and routes.

    • Safe and efficient evacuation techniques.

  2. Barricade Strategy:

    • Creating effective barriers and cover.

    • Securing doors and windows.

    • Communicating silently with others while barricaded.

  3. Counter (Fight) Strategy:

    • Understanding when and how to confront an active shooter.

    • Techniques for disarming an assailant.

    • Working as a team to overpower a threat.

  4. Situational Awareness:

    • Developing heightened awareness in crowded or potentially dangerous environments.

    • Identifying escape routes and potential hiding spots.

  5. Communication and Coordination:

    • Effective communication with law enforcement and first responders.

    • Coordinating actions with others during an incident.

  6. Medical Response:

    • Basic first aid and life-saving techniques for injuries.

    • Treating gunshot wounds and other injuries.
